Facial Muscle Firming Treatment - Tempero Mandibular RegionMasseter Facial MusclesThe Masseters are short thick muscles, roughly quadrilateral in shape and each consisting of two layers - superficial and deep. The superficial layer of these facial muscles is larger. It originates from the malar process of the superior maxilla and from the anterior two-thirds of the lower border of the zygomatic arch. The fibres extend down and backward to insert into the angle and lower half of the outer surface of the ramus of the jaw. The deep layer of these facial muscles is smaller. It originates from the posterior third of the lower border and the whole of the inner surface of the zygomatic arch. Its fibres pass down and forward to insert into the upper half of the ramus and outer surface of the coronoid process of the jaw. The fibres of the two layers are united at their insertion. The action of the Masseters is to raise the mandible. Platysma Facial or Neck MusclesThe "facial muscle" known as the Platysma is strictly speaking a neck muscle rather than a facial muscle. We treat it during facial muscle firming treatments because of its action which is to draw the mandible downward. It originates from the fascia covering the pectoral and deltoid muscles. It fibres pass as a thin sheet over the clavicle upward and inward along the side of the neck. The insertion is complex and varied. |
