Anthocyanins - A Definition

Anthocyanins are glycosidic pigments in blue, red, and purple flowers, and also found as metabolic byproducts in blood and urine.

Glycosidic pigments are compounds that contains a carbohydrate molecule (sugar), particularly any such natural product in plants, convertible, by hydrolytic cleavage, into sugar and a nonsugar component (aglycone) and named specifically for the sugar contained, as glucoside (glucose), pentoside (pentose), fructoside (fructose) etc.
